At first, Frenkie de Jong was reluctant to join Manchester United. However, the Mirror report that their new coach Erik ten Hag managed to change his mind.
First of all, the Dutch coach told De Jong that, in his opinion, Barcelona failed to get the best out of him during his three years at Camp Nou. As such the new Manchester United gaffer has appeared to promise the Dutch midfielder that he will help him to rediscover his best form probably by deploying him in his best midfield position.
Second, Ten Hag reminded Frenkie of their joint time at Ajax, specifically of the 2018-19 season when they won the double and reached the Champions League semi-final. Perhaps the coach believes they can reach the same heights.
Although Man United will not be playing in the Champions League next season, De Jong is now open to joining the Red Devils. The clubs are yet to find an agreement regarding a final fee, though.
As per Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona has rejected Man United’s initial offer for Frenkie de Jong, although the Catalans would be open to selling if the right offer comes in.
