2 Ways Carrick Is Set To Line-Up Man United In His First Game Against Villarreal Revealed

Michael Carrick is set to be at the dugout for United’s trip to Villarreal in the Champions League group stage game following Solskjaer’s sack on Sunday. Here are the expected ways United could line up for this game under Carrick.

Option 1: Minor changes from Watford clash

Ways Carrick Is Set To Line-Up Man United

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might’ve been sacked, that doesn’t mean everything will be changed around against Villarreal. Michael Carrick has made it clear that he ‘shares the same beliefs’ as Ole, meaning he probably won’t change the system much.

Luke Shaw will miss the game after sustaining a head injury against Watford. Eric Bailly could get some game-time, while Fred is likely to start after sitting the last game out. With Mason Greenwood out, Jadon Sancho is likely to start again on the right-wing.

Option 2: A vastly different team from last game

Carrick could of course decide to rotate his squad to make a statement against Villarreal. If he benches the underperforming Harry Maguire, it’d be quite the commanding statement. The duo of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly could play, while Diogo Dalot could come in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka too.

Donny van de Beek deserves a start after last game’s heroics. Jesse Lingard could also come in for Bruno Fernandes, who has had a drop of form in recent games.
