Raphael Varane’s transfer to Manchester United is all but an official with the Frenchman set to undergo a medical next week.
However, it remains to be seen which squad number the Frenchman will wear at Old Trafford when there are a few options available to the defender at the moment.
Below are just the 3 possible shirt numbers the Frenchman could go after once after his medical;
Varane wears the No.4 shirt for France but Phil Jones currently occupies it at Man United. Should the Englishman leave the club this summer, the 28-year-old will jump at the opportunity to claim his favorite jersey.
The vacant No.12 shirt, worn by Chris Smalling before his move to AS Roma will be really easy for Varane to obtain. In the past, it was worn by the likes of Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, and Phil Neville.
The number remains available following Marcos Rojo’s move to Argentina in January 2021. Varane might be prompted to choose the shirt because club legends Roy Keane and Michael Carrick wore it in the past.
That’s the most likely and the available shirt numbers at United for Varane at the moment. Obviously, the France international would like to go for no.4 as it is his favorite jersey worn at his national team side. But it’s left to see if Jones would exit the club this summer.
