3 Ways Thomas Tuchel Can Use Saul Niguez In His Chelsea Squad Revealed

Chelsea’s latest signing Saul Niguez has been training with the squad already and is likely to be available as soon as the Aston Villa clash.

While Saul is primarily going to be playing as a midfielder for the Blues, he has the versatility to play multiple positions should he be required to.

So with that being said, here’s a look at 3 different ways Saul could fit into the line-up for Chelsea:

Option 1: Midfield Pivot

Ways Thomas Tuchel Can Use Saul Niguez

Saul has obviously been brought in to be the 4th midfielder in Chelsea’s squad so that there is adequate cover in the position.

As such, we are most likely going to see him playing on the left side of the double-pivot for Chelsea, next to Jorginho and maybe Kante.

The Spaniard is effective on both the defensive and attacking side of the ball, making him an excellent option to have.

Option 2: As An Attacking Midfielder

While it isn’t his ideal position by any stretch of the imagination, Saul did play a lot of his career in a more advanced role.

The Spaniard could easily fill in a more free role behind Lukaku but there are a number of options above him in the pecking order there.

Regardless, his excellent left foot and attacking acumen mean this is a very viable option as well.

Option 3 – On The Left Wing-Back Position

With Diego Simeone also switching to a formation that deployed 3 center-backs last season, Saul has had some time playing the wingback role.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have two excellent left-sided defenders in Alonso and Chilwell so it’s unlikely he would be required there, but he is excellent cover in that position as well.
