Roman Abramovich has released a statement, confirming that he gives up the ‘stewardship and care’ of Chelsea to the club’s charitable foundation.
The statement has left many fans wondering if it means Abramovich permanently giving up control of the club and selling it amid calls to the UK government to freeze his assets.
Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has shared some details about Abramovich’s plans.
“Chelsea are not for sale,” Solhekol tweeted. “Roman Abramovich is not calling in any loans.”

“He is stepping back from involvement in day-to-day running of the club because he wants to protect Chelsea from the attention he’s getting.
“This is Roman Abramovich’s read of the current situation and he is doing what he thinks is best for the club. There is no timeframe on this.
“He is not involved in politics and he is not involved with Vladimir Putin. Chelsea are horrified by what is happening in Ukraine.”
