Roman Abramovich is set to part ways with his beloved Chelsea. He is already disqualified from being a club director as the Blues are going through a takeover.
But the Russian billionaire still wants to own a football club, even if it’s not Chelsea. Fanatik, a Turkish source, claims that Abramovich is ‘in talks to buy’ Goztepe.
Goztepe are a Turkish Super Lig side. They are based in Izmir, the third-largest city in Turkey.
“Negotiations have begun between Sepil [Goztepe’s current owner] and representatives of the Russian billionaire,” CNN Turk report, as quoted by Lost Sports.
“It became known that Abramovich was in contact with Sepil through a Turkish businessman. It was stated that professionals from both sides assessed the market, and yesterday the ex-head of the club went to Ankara and held talks on this issue.
“Abramovich’s representative and the club’s managers will hold a face-to-face meeting in a few days.”
Turkey has not joined UK and EU sanctions against Abramovich.
