Cesar Azpilicueta Makes Final Decision On His Chelsea Future Amid Strong Interest From Barca

According to the Athletic, Cesar Azpilicueta is willing to sign a new contract with Chelsea. His current deal expires at the end of this season.

The Spaniard’s role has been diminished this season as he has started just 16 games out of a possible 27 so far this season. However, he wants to stay and fight for his place in the first team.

Cesar’s desire to continue with Chelsea comes as a blow to Barcelona. Their new head coach Xavi was Azpilicueta’s teammate in the Spanish national team and is a big fan of the defender. The Catalans are looking to snap up the 32-year-old on free agency.

Chelsea traditionally offer only one-year deals to players over the age of 30. The Blues captain wants the club to give him a longer deal as a sign of his importance to the team.

If Chelsea refuse to do it, he would consider moving to Barcelona. But his priority remains to stay at Stamford Bridge.
