Barcelona President Finally Breaks Silence On Lionel Messi’s Unexpected Departure
“I don’t want to generate false hope,” Joan Laporta responded when asked if Lionel Messi could still play for Barcelona.
“Messi tried to make it easy for us. We made the first offer which was a 2-year salary being paid in 5 years,” Laporta continued.
“We thought it would be allowed in the regulations, but it was not. It is all part of a process from La Liga.
“After an evaluation from the La Liga commission, we found out that our contract were not within the boundaries of the regulations.”

“We wanted the post-Messi era to start in two years, but taking the circumstances into account, we had to bring it forward,” Laporta concluded.
From what it seems, Lionel Messi will actually leave Barcelona this summer unless something drastic happens.
According to La Liga financial regulations, Barca can’t register Messi this season, which is the sole reason for the complications.
