Giving an update on Raphael Varane’s injury recovery, Michael Carrick said: “Yeah, Rapha’s rehab is going really well.

“He’s out on the grass but it won’t be any time this week, by any stretch, it’ll be a little bit further than that, if not even longer.

“He’s on course [though], which is good.”

He also gave an update on Edinson Cavani, adding: “Edi is back on the grass. He is working outside with the strength and conditioning guys. Paul (Pogba) and Rapha are a bit further away.”

Varane was initially expected to be back to full fitness in the second week of December, which is after the Crystal Palace game on Sunday. Cavani last played in the 2-2 draw against Atalanta and has struggled with a few issues.

The United duo will look to impress his new manager Ralf Rangnick and hope to reinstate themselves as regulars in the starting XI after recovering from injury.
