Xavi Hernandez has given Barcelona board the green light to sign Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech on loan in the January transfer window, according to SPORT.
FC Barcelona is keen on bringing Ziyech to Camp Nou on a short-term deal but their mounting debt means they can’t afford an obligation to buy him.
Ziyech’s name ‘is on the table’ among the players Barcelona wants to sign for their newly appointed manager, Xavi.
Ziyech, who has struggled for minutes at Chelsea this season under Thomas Tuchel, may be willing to accept a loan move to Barcelona in order to play more first-team football.
A January loan move would be beneficial for all parties involved.
Moreover, Ziyech’s £100,00-a-week wages are not thought to be a stumbling block despite Barcelona’s financial situation.
Barcelona is a long-term admirer of the Morocco international and even tried to sign him from Ajax in 2019, a year before he joined Chelsea in a £38million deal.
The report added that Xavi and Barcelona do have their eyes on alternative targets, though, should they lose out on Ziyech.
Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman is another name on their list after being the subject of interest in the summer.
Meanwhile, Xavi recently signed Dani Alves, a former Barcelona teammate but he is not eligible to be registered in any official game until January 2022.
