Comparing Erling Haaland’s Last Season To Didier Drogba’s Best Chelsea Season
Chelsea are reportedly in the race to sign Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, with club owner Roman Abramovich personally being involved in the negotiations.
The youngster, who has already attained a world-class status awed the footballing community with his goals and his ability in the final third since his breakthrough season at Red Bull Salzburg a few years ago.
Moreover, you should know that every striker that wears the Chelsea shirt or is even strongly linked with the club will inevitably hear the name Didier Drogba, who was arguably Chelsea’s best striker of the century.
Hence, we thought it would be a great thing if we check the basic stats of Erling Haaland’s last season at Borussia Dortmund to Didier Drogba’s best Chelsea season, which was the 2019-10 season.
That campaign the Chelsea legend finished with 29 Premier League goals and 37 overall in 44 appearances – his personal best tally for the Blues.
Note: These stats are only for the domestic leagues during these seasons.
Goals
Haaland – 27 goals in 28 games
Drogba – 29 goals in 32 games
Assists
Haaland – 6
Drogba – 10

Basic shooting stats
Haaland – 47 shots on target, 0.53 goals per shot on target, 1.76 shots on target per 90 minutes
Drogba – 67 shots on target, 2.18 shots on target per 90 minutes, 0.42 goals per shot on target
Due to advanced stats such as expected goals are not available for Drogba’s season so we cannot compare them.
However, what we can compare paints a strong picture – Haaland at just the age of 21 is so good, almost as good as Drogba was at the age of 32 and at his peak!
If Chelsea do manage to sign the talented forward, we have a gem on our hands. Here’s to hoping that he can be as good as Drogba for us – and that we do bring him to Stamford Bridge!
