4 Defenders Who Could Replace Sergio Ramos At Real Madrid

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is out of contract at the end of the season and the Spanish giants have now reportedly shortlisted four players, who could replace the veteran.

It has been reported that negotiations between Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos have made very little progress, with the Spanish international out of contract in the summer. As a result, an exit from the Spanish capital is thought to be on the cards amid rumored interest from Paris Saint-Germain and even Manchester United, if rumors are to be believed.

But the big question now is, if Ramos does leave, who would replace the experienced defender at Real Madrid

Moreover, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane will need reinforcements with only Raphael Varane, Eder Militao, and Nacho as his established center-back options.

4 Players Who Could Replace Sergio Ramos At Real Madrid

Now according to Diario AS, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez already has a plan B, should the 34-year-old defender exit the club. Below are the possible options at Real’s disposal;

1. David Alaba

Though it was surprising, Bayern Munich has made the bold decision to withdraw a contract offer for Alaba. Therefore, the Austrian will become a free agent once his current offer expires at the end of the season and he is free already begin talks over a free transfer.

The 28-year-old versatile defender is a proven talent at the highest level and a top transfer target for Real Madrid and as a possible Sergio Ramos replacement.

2. Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly has been on the radar for several top clubs for the past few seasons. A series of impressive displays from the Senegalese in the Napoli defense has kept interests alive from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

However, if Napoli fails to qualify for the Champions League again this season, the Italian club may be open to letting their chief defender leave in a cut-price deal – especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

3. Jules Kounde

The young defender proved why Manchester City wanted him last summer by playing a key role in Sevilla’s 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Barcelona last Wednesday.

However, the stumbling block here could be Kounde’s release clause of €90m, which makes him unattainable for Real Madrid at the moment. But should Sevilla opt to let one of their biggest assets leave on the cheap, then a move to Real Madrid is likely at this stage.

4. Pau Torres

Pau Torres is a young and promising Spanish talent and would be an exciting addition for Los Blancos. However, his €50m release clause, along with an unproven ability to impress at the highest level, is a potential turnoff.
