When asked about the toughest opposition player he’s played against so far, Erling Haaland told ESPN: “Virgil van Dijk. He is so good. He is powerful, quick, he possesses all the qualities. He is an incredible player.”
The Norwegian faced off against Van Dijk on a few occasions in the Champions League back in 2019, when he scored for RB Salzburg in their 3-4 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.

However, the Liverpool-Dutch defender kept him quiet in the reverse fixture which the Reds won 2-0, which could be the reason behind Haaland’s thoughts.
In contrast, Kylian Mbappe has a completely different kind of player in mind when asked about the toughest opposition player he’s come up against.
When asked about it, he simply answered: “Gianluigi Buffon”.
The French forward faced off against the Italian legend in the Ligue 1 when he was still at AS Monaco and would even become the Italian teammate after joining PSG in 2017.
