How Did Fernandinho Get Away With This Nasty Challenge On Mason Mount?

Manchester City captain Fernandinho was not even booked for either of his fouls on Mason Mount during Chelsea’s clash against the Citizens in the FA Cup semis.

The duel between Mason Mount and Fernandinho was one of the highlights of the first half of the FA Cup semifinal on Saturday. One of those players consistently overstepped the limits rule – and was not even booked once for it.

First, the City captain slightly caught Mount’s face with his boot while the Chelsea midfielder was lying on the ground after a tough challenge.

Again, the Man City captain took Mount out with a sliding tackle from the back, but neither of the fouls resulted in a booking, let alone a sending-off.

Then surprisingly, when Reece James had one foul on him himself, the Brazilian did everything he needed to get the Chelsea right-back booked.

These decisions made by the referee Mike Dean didn’t go unnoticed by the Blues fans globally as they took to social media to react.

Below is the reaction to Fernandinho getting away with his fouls on Mason Mount on Saturday;

Modernregista (via r/chelseafc at Reddit): “Fernandinho is throwing in rash challenges for fun but Mike Dean books Reece for his first foul. He should’ve been sent off twice by now.”

Chapea12: “If Mason was more theatrical, Fernandinho would at least have a yellow or more.”

kaiheekai: “James’ yellow after Fernandinho could have earned two on worse challenges was the major mistake today.”

Although Fernandinho late got his yellow card in the second half, there is a strong case to be made that he should not have even been on the pitch by then!
