Chelsea have ended up winning the Champions League this season, which has made the London club eligible for 2 more competitions to take place later this year. The two more competitions are the UEFA Super Cup final and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Thus, having already won the Champions League, the blues can add these two titles to their trophy cabinet later this year.
Super Cup Date and History
Chelsea have lost their last 3 Super Cup finals, having won the trophy only once back in 1998. This time around, the final will take place in Belfast, Ireland.
The Blues will be facing La Liga side Villarreal, who beat Manchester United to win the Europa League.
This game is thus, scheduled to take place on August 11, with fans allowed in attendance. Chelsea have every chance to add this trophy to their cabinet.
FIFA Club World Cup
Chelsea have placed in the finals of the FIFA Club World Cup once, back in 2012 after lifting the Champions League title earlier that year. However, Corinthians beat the Blues in the final 1-0, therefore spoiling the club’s chances of adding the trophy to the cabinet.
This particular competition, moreover, has not yet been handed an exact start date yet, will take place in Japan and be contested between four clubs by the time Chelsea enter the competition at the semi-final stage.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are the only club to have confirmed their spot in the tournament so far, with the rest of the clubs to participate yet to qualify.
Again, it’s worthy to note that the other sides involved will come from various other continents, including the winners of the Copa Libertadores.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are the current holders of the title after winning the competition last season.
Chelsea Can Match Liverpool’s Record By Winning Both
The Merseyside club completed the ‘World treble’ back in the 2019-20 season. The Reds have won the Champions League the season before, and then went on to beat us in the Super Cup final and then won the Club World Cup.
So should Chelsea manage to win both the competitions, we will be only the 2nd English side to achieve the feat after Liverpool!
