Phil Jones declined to Give Raphael Varane no. 4 shirt as the Frenchman was presented at Old Trafford before the first Premier League match this season against Leeds United.

Meanwhile, during the presentation, Raphael Varane’s jersey number with the Red Devils was revealed to be number 19.

Manchester Evening News, speculatively reported that the defender wanted to wear the no. 4 shirt just as he does with the France national team.

However, Phil Jones who is currently wearing the no. 4 Jersey declined to give it up for the Frenchman. Recall that Jones had maintained the jersey number since joining United from Blackburn in 2011.

The 28-year-old French defender was just officially announced as a Manchester United player before the early kick-off game against Leeds United on Saturday following his protracted transfer saga. Varane was eager to complete the switch and could be in line to make his United debut next weekend.
