Jorginho Finally Reveals Why He almost gave up on playing football
Chelsea midfielder and Ballon d’Or nominee Jorginho has revealed in an interview with the Champions Journal that he nearly quit on football at the age of 15 – when he played for Hellas Verona.
He said: “I ran home crying a lot and said, ‘I’ve had enough. Football isn’t for me – I want to quit, I want to go home, I just want to play football for fun and that’s that.
“It was then I was fortunate enough to have the family I have, because they said, ‘No, you’re not coming back. You’re so close to making it.’ And, fortunately, they convinced me to not go back.”
It was not easy for the young Jorginho who had to fight against severe home-sickness to climb to the top of Italian football before Chelsea came calling.
The Italian midfielder is enjoying a pretty good career at Stamford Bridge, making over 100 appearances and winning multiple trophies – including the Champions League last season!
