Koeman Opens Up On The Formation Barca Will Play This Season After Salzburg Loss
Following the loss against Red Bull Salzburg, Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman was asked to comment on the change of formation that he went for.
“I think it’s important to be able to change between formations. The system with three at the back gave us a lot last season, all of the data shows that. It was our best formation,” the coach replied.
“And it’s important to go back to that system in a pre-season game. I don’t want to say that we will continue to play with that system, but we can change to it for a game and make it more difficult for the opposition.”

The Catalans played with the traditional 4-3-3 formation in the first three friendlies of the season, winning them all. However, we have to admit that the rivals weren’t as strong as the Austrians.
In the game against Salzburg, Koeman went with the 3-5-2 formation with Frenkie de Jong as the third center-back. The 24-year-old made several defensive mistakes throughout the game and some might hold him accountable for the first goal.
