Jesse Lingard did not celebrate his 89th-minute goal against West Ham on Sunday out of respect for his former club.
“They supported me in the loan spell and gave me a great reception, so it was only right to pay them back,” Jesse said, as per the Evening Standard.
“It was a great reception from the West Ham fans. I had a brilliant time here, but I had to do my bit.”
Jesse Lingard spent the second part of the previous season on loan with the Hammers.
He revived his career with David Moyes’ side, scoring 9 goals in 16 league games with West Ham before returning to Old Trafford to continue his career.
Although the England international is yet to commit his future to United as his contract is set to expire next summer. Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly shown the desire to keep the 28-year-old but Jesse is understood to be taking his time before agreeing to new terms with the Red Devils.
