Luis Suarez Sets Record After Scoring A Brace Against Eibar

A Luis Suarez brace was enough for Atletico Madrid to edge Eibar and extend their lead at the top of La Liga. The Uruguayan once again was the hero of the day as Atletico recorded a comeback 2-1 win against Eibar on Thursday night.

A Surprise name in goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic opened the scoring for Eibar from the penalty spot in the 12th minute. The Serbian shot-stopper made no mistake as he sends Jan Oblak the wrong way after Yannick Carrasco had clumsily brought down Yoshi Muto in the area.

But Atletico would go on to dominate the game for a long period and finally found the equalizer through Luis Suarez. The former Barcelona man got to an end of a loose ball from a tight angle after Marcos Llorente had chased down an Eibar clearance.

Meanwhile, the Eibar goal scorer Marko Dmitrovic made a number of brilliant saves at the other end to keep his side in the game and it looked like the match was primed for a draw. However, a late drama that saw Eibar defender Arnaiz Arbilla stuck out a leg on Suarez in the box as he went through on goal in the 89th minute.

Suarez would step up to score a cheeky penalty which was his 11th goal of the season. With the goal, the Uruguayan became level on top with Lionel Messi in the La Liga goal-scoring charts.

The brace also means that Luis Suarez has now scored at least 10 league goals for the past 10 consecutive seasons, according to Squawka.

Though not yet ‘confirmed,’ but the Atletico man might have as well been the first Uruguayan to score 500 official professional goals in club colors.

Luis Suarez is the fastest Atletico Madrid signing to score that many goals in well over a decade now, and he is as well proving to be an important figure in Atelti’s La Liga charge.

Now with the victory, the Los Rojablacos are now seven points clear at the top of La Liga with a game in hand to play.

Undoubtedly, Luis Suarez is one of the greatest strikers of all-time! Congratulations to him!
