Speaking to talkSPORT about why he’s yet to speak to the new manager, Harry Maguire said: “I think Erik ten Hag understands that I’m away on international duty. Four games in a week-and-a-half is a lot.
“I’m sure I’ll speak to him real soon. He’s an exciting appointment. Coming off the back of a really tough season for everyone at the club, everyone’s excited and really looking forward to working with him.
“So yes, I’m sure after this international break I’ll go away and have a break and I’ll look forward to meeting up with him, the whole squad again, and see where the next season takes us.”
Ten Hag is targetting a new center-back ahead of the 2021/22 campaign with the Dutchman seemingly concerned with Maguire’s lack of consistency.
It remains to be seen whether the 29-year-old will retain his place in Manchester United’s starting XI — and, therefore, the captain’s armband — next season.
