Lionel Messi Finally Explains Why He Refused To Take No. 10 From Neymar at PSG

Speaking to France Football after winning his record-breaking seventh Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi said: “Neymar is the number 10 here.

“I’m new at the club, I was coming to help. It was a fantastic gesture on his part. I was expecting it, because I know Neymar well.

“We spent time together at Barcelona and we’re friends. It seemed fairer to me that he keep the number 10. It’s why I took another number I liked.”

Lionel Messi has instead opted to take the no.30 jersey at Paris Saint-Germain which was the Argentine’s squad number during his first two seasons at Barcelona.

Although the former Barcelona captain has struggled to hit top form in Ligue 1 earlier after his transfer, the 34-year-old has now seemed to be finding his feet once again. He has currently won the Ligue 1 goal of the month for November and helped PSG through to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 where they will face Real Madrid his long-term rival when he was at Camp Nou.
