Lionel Messi shocked the world of football by lying down behind the wall during a free-kick in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2–0 win against Manchester City in the Champions League back in September.
Such a role is usually reserved for defenders and it was quite bizarre to see someone of the Argentine’s stature to assume the awkward position on the pitch. However, the 34-year-old is not concerned.
Leo Messi told France Football: “At that precise moment, it was what we needed. We were winning the game.
“There was no one to do it, and since I was there, I lied down. Honestly, it’s nothing. We all have to contribute in order to get results.”
