Former Chelsea and Nigeria Midfielder Mikel Obi Names Key Reasons For Lukaku’s Struggles At Chelsea
John Obi Mikel insists Romelu Lukaku’s poor form with Chelsea is down to the difference between the Premier League and Serie A.
“It is the league, the Premier League is too powerful, too strong, too fast, whereas Italian League is slow,” he told Naija FM.
“The pace of English football is way too much than the Italian league. In the Italian League, you can play till your 40s, but that hardly happens in the English League.”
Romelu Lukaku scored 15 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 season. In his final campaign with Inter Milan, he netted 30 goals in the same number of games.

Going by what the legendary midfielder said, he could be so right given that the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic are still playing strongly in the Italian league whereas he left the Premier League in 2018.
The Premier League could be so fast and strong according to Obi Mikel but being honest, Lukaku’s goal return comparing his age and form in his last season at Inter Milan is quite questionable too.
