Manchester United Make Move That Will Allow Cristiano Ronaldo Wear Iconic Number

Since the announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo as a Manchester United player on Friday, the question every fan has been asking is what will happen to his iconic no.7, since Edinson Cavani currently dons the shirt number at United. Not only that the Uruguayan wears it but it has also been registered for the league season.

In answer to that question now, Manchester United have requested ‘special dispensation’ from the Premier League to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to reclaim the iconic No.7 shirt this season, reports the Daily Mirror.

Edinson Cavani is the only player in recent times to have done justice to the number but it’s impossible to imagine Ronaldo without the ‘7’ on his back.

The Uruguayan has another year left on his contract and is not expected to leave, despite the Portuguese superstar’s arrival.

Meanwhile, Premier League rules dictate that a player cannot change his squad number once the list has been registered. It remains to be seen if officials will accept United’s request.

If it’s granted, Edinson Cavani could wear the No.21 shirt he wears for his country now that Daniel James has joined Leeds United.
