Often times, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is considered as the finest footballer in the world, but now an ex-Selecao star challenges that claim and says Neymar is ahead of the pair.
According to former Brazil international Caio Ribeiro, the PSG forward currently stands as the “best player in the world” ahead of Ronaldo and Messi.
Ronaldo, who is at the late stages of his impeccable career is still going strong and remains a standout performer for Juventus week in week out. A week today, the Portuguese superstar will be turning 36 but his output in front of goal has hardly diminished, having delivered an impressive tally of 20 goals in 21 games in the 2020-21 campaign so far.
On the other hand, FC Barcelona and Argentina captain Lionel Messi suffered a dip in form earlier in the season but has seemed to be back to his best, scoring 15 times in 23 outings for Barcelona across all competitions this term.
Meanwhile, Neymar has always been touted as Ronaldo and Messi’s successor ever since he was at Santos. However, the Brazilian has been unable to live to those hypes in terms of individual or team success.
Neymar’s talent, although unquestionable, but his injury struggles and attitude issues have not quite allowed him to cement his legendary status in world football.
Now, a former Santos, Sao Paulo, and Gremio forward believe that the star who turns 29 a week today is up there with the two colossi of football in Ronaldo and Messi.
“Even if he [Neymar] has a behavior that we don’t agree with, I think he is an ace, currently the best player in the world,” claimed the Brazilian legend while speaking to Panico Jovem Pan.
“He plays more balls than Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi.”
