Chelsea Learn Possible Opponents In The Champions League Group Stage
Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League 2021-22 campaign. But in case you did not know, there 4 pots and these determine your opponents in the group stages of the competition. However, the only conditions are these – you cannot draw an opponent from the same pot and the same country.
Moreover, there will be one opponent from each pot. At the moment, Chelsea are placed in Pot 2. But the Blues could move to the first pot if they win the Champions League final against Manchester City on May 29.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at all of the possible opponents in the next season’s Champions League group stages, as the Pots stand;
Pot 1 Opponents
- Zenit St Petersburg (will move down to pot 3 if Chelsea win Champions League final)
- Villarreal (if they can win the Europa League final)
- Atletico Madrid
- Inter Milan
- Bayern Munich
- Lille
- Sporting CP
Pot 2 Teams
- Real Madrid
- Barcelona
- Juventus
- Paris Saint-Germain
- Manchester United*
- Liverpool
- Sevilla
- Chelsea*
*- Man United and Chelsea can move to Pot 1 if they win their European finals.

Pot 3 Teams
- Borussia Dortmund**
- FC Porto**
- Ajax
- Shakhtar Donetsk*
- RB Leipzig
- FC Salzburg*
- Benfica*
- Atalanta
* – indicates that these teams will have to go through the qualifying stages first, and ** indicates that Porto and Dortmund can move to pot 2, and won’t be drawn in our group as a result.
Pot 4 Opponents
- Club Brugge
- AC Milan
- Wolfsburg
While the rest of the teams will be decided after the qualifiers.
Also, it is necessary to note that should Chelsea lose the Champions League final, they will be facing teams from Pot 1, 3, and 4.
But should Chelsea win the final, they will then be facing teams from Pot 2, 3, and 4 (except the English teams in Pot 2).
