FT. QPR 4-2 Man United: Players Ratings, Lingard 7.5, Greenwood 7.0 & Others
The Red Devils suffered an embarrassing 2-4 loss to QPR in their second pre-season friendly of the campaign. But here is how our stars fared off;
Jesse Lingard – 7.5
Jesse was arguably the brightest aspect of United’s attack. Scored a really clever goal early on, driving past a few players before slotting past the goalkeeper smartly. Lingard’s movement, the link-up play was really promising, and looked eager to get among goals every time he got the ball. He looks set to cement his place in the United team this season.
Mason Greenwood – 7.0
Playing in a center-forward role again, Greenwood showed off his creative side really well today. Made a great defense-splitting pass to open things up leading to Lingard’s goal. Also made a great defense-splitting pass to put Anthony Elanga through on goal early in the second half. Despite the disappointing result, Mason was one of those players who would hold their head high after the game.
Anthony Elanga – 7.5
The Swedish winger caused a lot of problems with his fizzy movement since coming on in the second half. Missed a big chance minutes after coming on, but kept going at it before scoring a beautiful goal to make it 2-4. Always a big threat inside the box and his movement continuously kept QPR defenders guessing.
Juan Mata – 6.0
Took on the captain’s armband in the second half and produced some nice stuff with his passing. Linked up well with the youngsters and opened up spaces for them in the box with some lovely passes.
Nemanja Matic – 4.0
Matic started as United captain, however, he was just not good enough. Couldn’t win duels against the QPR defenders, looked rusty with his movement, and was very sloppy on the ball too. Taken off at half-time after a disappointing performance.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 3.5
Spider-Wan seems to be far from his best in pre-season and looked very rusty in this one. Allowed too many crosses to go past his wing and his poor back-post defending allowed QPR to score the second goal. No creativity going forward and didn’t show much motivation to play in this one. In fact, it was totally another poor display from the Englishman.
Brandon Williams – 3.0
Williams filled in the left-back role with Alex Telles injured but was used as United’s weak point in the second half. He allowed QPR players to go past him too easily and allowed Lyndon to score his second goal too easily.
Little to no threat going forward and this performance probably leaves Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to get Luke Shaw back soon.
Andreas Pereira – 3.5
Andreas started in a deeper midfield role and his sloppy performance proved that he doesn’t like playing there. His distribution was too predictable and lacked creativity. Struggled to contribute defensively and allowed Moses Odubajo too much space to score his impressive goal.
Other Ratings
Facundo Pellistri – 7: Picked up an assist for Lingard’s goal in a rather fortunate fashion, but looked dangerous with his movement.
Axel Tuanzebe – 6: Probably the strongest of the defenders on the day. Didn’t make noticeable errors and made some great challenges.
The rest: Heaton – 5, Mengi – 4, James – 4, Grant – 3, Garner – 5, Shoretire – 6, Levitt – 5, Bernard – 6, Fish – 6, Hugill – 5.
