It has officially been confirmed by Manchester United that Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed the No.7 shirt for the current season.
As a result, former shirt bearer Edinson Cavani will now take up the no.21 shirt vacated by Daniel James following his transfer to Leeds United for the rest of the campaign. Edi’s new number is also the number he wears for Uruguay.
Therefore in response to the kind gesture from the Uruguayan, Cristiano Ronaldo has publicly thanked him saying “I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture.”
Meanwhile, Premier League rules mean that players once registered into a squad cannot change their shirts unless they’re sold or the club gets special permission from the league.
However, it was reported earlier this week that Manchester United have requested ‘special dispensation’ from the Premier League to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to reclaim the iconic No.7 shirt this season.
And it has obviously been granted as United have officially announced that the Portuguese will wear his iconic no.7 but not without thanks to Edinson Cavani, as Cristiano acknowledged!
