Luis Suarez Breaks A Cristiano Ronaldo La Liga Record!

Luis Suarez has written his name in the Spanish league’s history books as he breaks a Cristiano Ronaldo La Liga record. The Atletico Madrid striker has now surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the best start with a new La Liga club after 17 years.

Suarez recently joined Atletico Madrid from Barcelona in a free transfer and the striker has taken no time to settle. He took his goal tally up to 16 goals in only 17 league games for Diego Simeone’s men by scoring a brace in Monday’s 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo.

As per Opta, Luis Suarez has made the best start of any La Liga player in his first 17 games for a new club in the 21st century.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo was previously the holder of the record in the 2009-2010 season. After signing for Real Madrid in a then world-record fee of €94m from Manchester United, the Portuguese went ahead to score 15 goals in as many matches for the Los Blancos in La Liga.

On the other hand, Luis Suarez has also moved three goals clear of his former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi to lead the Spanish league’s goal charts.

The Uruguayan previously won the Spanish Golden Boot, otherwise called the ‘Pichichi Trophy’, in the 2015-2016 season when he scored 40 goals in only 35 games for Barcelona. The 34-year-old striker also won a second European Golden Shoe that season.

This is just a reminder to the Barcelona board that Luis Suarez is far from being finished despite being 34 years of age!

Congratulations to El Pistolero as he breaks a Cristiano Ronaldo La Liga record!
