When asked about whether Donny van de Beek’s best position in his Man United side is as a deeper midfielder or in a more attacking role, Erik ten Hag said: “He can do both.
“I know that from the past. But his best position, his best capability is in the box of the opponent.
“Playing short behind the striker, he has a really good smell of being in the right position.”
Van de Beek played just behind the striker in the second half against Liverpool on Wednesday but wasn’t able to make that big an impact playing with young teammates.
Donny is likely to get more game-time in the upcoming pre-season games and has to improve his performance to become an important part of Ten Hag’s squad this season.
