Thomas Tuchel Responds To Romelu Lukaku’s Absence In Chelsea Super Cup Squad

With fans only wanting to know when the Romelu Lukaku transfer goes through, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was naturally asked about it at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

The German gaffer gave a slightly vague answer, saying; “I am absolutely not in the position to announce anything and I will maybe refuse to talk about players who are not at Chelsea, as we are also in a matchday mindset.

“This is not the moment for personal discussions of our squad. We have a very clear structure in the club, everybody has ideas whether that is Marina [Granovskaia], the owner, Petr [Cech].”

“We always try to improve but at the same time, we also believe in the development of our players and we have a lot of young players upfront like Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, and Timo Werner, who are all in their second season and I am sure the experience of last year will give them a huge boost.”

Meanwhile, this response from Tuchel is likely tongue-in-cheek with the Lukaku transfer more or less confirmed to be done by reputed sources.

Whatever it is, it clearly would make sense to not ask the German about it again until the big Belgian is pulling into Stamford Bridge to report for duty!
