The top 10 clubs in Europe with the highest Overall Team Strength have been ranked. According to FiveThirtyEight, this is how their SPI (Soccer Power Index) ratings go: “In our system, every team has an offensive rating that represents the number of goals it would be expected to score against an average team on a neutral field, and a defensive rating that represents the number of goals it would be expected to concede.
“These ratings, in turn, produce an overall SPI rating, which represents the percentage of available points — a win is worth 3 points, a tie worth 1 point, and a loss worth 0 points — the team would be expected to take if that match were played over and over again.”
Across the whole of Europe, Manchester City top the list with Bayern Munich following them before Barcelona rounds up the top-3.
Chelsea have been ranked in 4th place in the FiveThirtyEight’s Global Club Soccer Rankings. The Blues are ahead of the likes of Man United, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur in this particular ranking.
Chelsea and City also boast of the best defensive rating in the top 20 – with both clubs the only team to have a similar rating of 0.2.
