Thomas Tuchel Finally Explains Why He Dropped Romelu Lukaku For Lille Win

Many fans are surprised to see Romelu Lukaku benched in Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Lille.

Thomas Tuchel has explained why he made this decision.

“I felt him a little bit tired,” the boss told the club’s media team. “He looked a little exhausted and you have to consider that he’s played a lot.

“We’ve had extra time [in the Club World Cup final], a lot of traveling recently and it wasn’t easy for him against Palace, this wasn’t Lukaku’s best performance.”

Meanwhile, the Blues have cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over the French Champions at Stamford Bridge with Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic both on the scoresheet.

The European Champions will be facing Liverpool on Sunday at Wembley Stadium for the Carabao Cup finals and hopefully, Romelu Lukaku will be back to starting XI for Chelsea.
