“I can understand these thoughts that maybe a cycle is at its end,” said Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel when asked about Cesar Azpilicueta’s future.
“He’s a legend, we’re still in the process to decide his future.
“So we are still in dialogue and at some point, we are also selfish, we are not responsible to solve any other club’s problems or to fulfil any other club’s wishes.”
Barcelona are interested in signing Cesar and have submitted a two-year contract offer as well. However, they are going through financial turmoil and would prefer to sign Azpilicueta on a free transfer.
Azpilicueta has been an integral part of the Blues’ defense since joining from Marseille a decade ago but he will see his current deal expire next month.
As per the sanctions placed on Chelsea by the UK government, the club cannot offer new contracts to players. That threw the 32-year-old’s future in doubt.
Azpilicueta is expected to hold showdown talks over his future with Tuchel but for now, it looks likely Barca will be his next destination.
