Man United are ready to sign a new defensive midfielder in the summer transfer window, claims Manchester Evening News.
The Red Devils’ management are willing to back Ralf Rangnick in the winter transfer market and boost his squad with reinforcements.
Rangnick prefers playing a ‘double 6’ in his midfield which gives him a solid case to sign a new defensive midfielder in the winter.
United are interested to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara, with the German manager making him his first acquisition at Old Trafford.
But, a major possible stumbling block in securing that transfer is that Haidara is due to play in the Africa Cup of Nations from January.
Therefore, it’ll be difficult for the midfielder to secure a move to Old Trafford before finishing his AFCON duties with Mali.
With Fred and Scott McTominay currently the preferred midfield duo for Rangnick, United want to help upgrade it with a quality defensive midfielder in January.
