Solskjaer Reaffirms United’s Desire To Keep Edinson Cavani For Another Year

Edinson Cavani was excellent in United’s win over AS Roma in the Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday night. With the player doubting over his stay at Manchester United for another year, United boss Solskjaer has urged Cavani to stay and experience scoring at Old Trafford in front of the fans.

“He was out for seven months without playing football for a long, long time before he came to us. He’s had a couple of injuries and he’s worked hard to get back fit and has shown his qualities,” Solskjaer said after the Roma game about Edinson Cavani.

“He knows my feelings. I’d love to have him for another year, we’ve spoken about it. This year has been very difficult but I’ve promised him Old Trafford and Manchester is a different place without fans in the stadium, he must try to get that feeling onside. Manchester is a fantastic place to live, I’m doing my best. Let’s see.

“Nights like this, hopefully we can get to the final and hopefully he can see himself being here for another year.

“We don’t have to sell the club to him, it’s about the feeling he gets, how he feels coming in every day, the environment we’re creating, the team we’re creating that he’s part of.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United has a one-year extension option with Cavani, though the agreement has to be mutual. At the moment, it doesn’t appear to be the case as the 34-year-old is rumored to be willing to return to South America.

Following his brace against Roma in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday, Edinson Cavani now has 12 goals across all competitions for the Reds Devils this season.
