Valverde Finally Breaks Silence On His Rocky Relationship With Lionel Messi At Barca

Ernesto Valverde coached Lionel Messi at Barcelona between 2017 and 2020. As per reports, Ernesto often received reprimands from the Argentine and the club’s other veterans. But the Barca legend chose not to make the conversation a public one.

“I can’t talk about these things [in public], they form part of the mystery. This is how it should be. It’s best that people don’t know what we are like. It’s best that they don’t know the truth,” Ernesto Valverde has told ETB of his relationship with Lionel Messi.

The 57-year-old, however, says that he didn’t think twice about accepting Barca’s offer when his former club came calling.

“I didn’t think twice about it. It was a good opportunity and an experience that I couldn’t turn down,” Valverde added.

“My departure? Well, I left and that’s it…”

Meanwhile, Ernesto Valverde has been out of works since leaving Camp Nou last year and now appears to be ready to return to management.

“I guess so, but it would need to be something stimulating, something motivating,” he concluded.

“After leaving Barca, I needed some time away from football. I wanted to travel a bit, but that hasn’t been possible with the pandemic. I’m not sure what I’m going to do next.”
