Raphael Varane Finally Responds To Questions Of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Pressing Abilities For Man United

“That debate was outside of the dressing room,” said Raphael Varane to the BBC when asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s apparent inability to press.

“We know his quality. And we know he’s very famous.

“So we know a lot of people will speak about the performance of the team and his performance.”

The Manchester United center-back added: “Cristiano is a great competitor. He’s a legend and he always helps the team, so obviously it’s very good to play with him.”

Over the past season, Ronaldo was criticized for his inability to press opponents under interim boss Ralf Rangnick. Despite that, he ended 2021/22 as our top scorer with 24 goals across competitions.

Unfortunately, now there is uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford, with the 37-year-old yet to turn up for pre-season training over ‘family issues’.

Erik ten Hag has firmly insisted Ronaldo is part of his plans but it remains to be seen if the Portuguese returns – and whether or not he adapts to the Dutch boss’ style of play.
