Despite him no longer being a Barcelona player, the club’s official account on Twitter congratulated Leo Messi on breaking Pele’s record for most goals for a South American country.
Following the continuous posting of the club legend on Barcelona’s official social media accounts, club president Joan Laporta has explained why the Catalans keep tweeting about the 34-year-old.
“We thank him enormously and forever. We make Messi’s individual successes ours, Barca is happy, and for that reason, we made the tweet,” Laporta has told Diario Cuatro.
Here’s the tweet in question, by the way.
“Top goalscorer for a South American country.
Brilliant, Leo!” The tweet then tagged his country Argentina.
