Thomas Tuchel has revealed the reason behind giving teenager Billy Gilmour a start against Fulham on the weekend. The German manager has been impressed with the youngster long before starting him against Fulham.
“Very, very good. He’s a confident guy, he’s well aware of his qualities, which is good,” Tuchel said of Billy Gilmour after the Fulham win.
“It was not necessary for him to convince me today because I’m already convinced, otherwise I would not have picked him for the line-up.
“So it was necessary that he plays his part, that he helps the team, and this is what he did. I’m happy for him.”
Billy Gilmour made his first start in the Tuchel era during the 2-0 win against Fulham. The Scotsman has had to deal with injuries during the campaign.
The 19-year-old played the entire game and dictated the pace of the match from midfield and even had a pass success rate of 90% against Fulham. He equally completed 2 tackles and completed 50% of his attempted dribbles.
