As per the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are still very interested in bringing Jules Kounde in the summer.
Last summer, the Blues were very close to his signing but a deal collapsed on deadline day as Sevilla upped their asking price and Chelsea pulled out.
According to Romano, Sevilla have ‘always asked for his €80M release clause to be met’, which means that the Blues will have to pay that much to get him.
Here is how Chelsea fans reacted to the price reveal:
Only1Nelson: “We’d be crazy to pay such an amount for him. Kounde who isn’t tall enough for a proper premier league defender”
farid22: “he’s still one of the best aerial defenders in Europe, his height is irrelevant. Fee is a little high but we need him.”
Mertoo_38: “We shouldn’t pay more than 60M, yeah it’s not my money but if we want to rebuild and get 3-4 money signings this summer we can’t spend 80M on Kounde”
Steven Green: “80m is to much unless we are going to go to a back 4 and then we can get away with someone else on a free”
naavisdumb: “It seems high but I’m sure we’ll negotiate something as he wants to leave. Sadly the market is inflated so given his age and profile, can’t see spending less than 70m”
