Former Blue Explains Why Haaland Is Key For Chelsea’s Premier League Title Bid

Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has been linked with a summer transfer to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund, and now Cole has urged his former club to make it happen.

According to Joe Cole, Erling Haaland is needed for Chelsea to launch a Premier League title challenge on a regular basis.

Despite a solid start to life under new boss Thomas Tuchel, the London giants have continued to lack firepower in the final third following Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Leeds United. The Pensioners have also kept nine clean sheets in 12 games under Tuchel and yet to lose a game.

“They need one player for me, Haaland. He’s on the wish-list,” Joe Cole, who played at Stamford Bridge between 2003 and 2010, told BT Sport.

“He’s a No 9. There’s so much in this squad, there’s quality in all areas, such a strong squad.”

” You just need that one sparkle of magic, that No 9, that focal point, and it will change this club getting back to the glory days of challenging for the title regularly.”

Erling Haaland has scored 19 goals and provided four assists in only 20 league games this season with Borussia Dortmund. In contrast, Chelsea’s top-scorer this season is Tammy Abraham, who has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances. The Englishman, who is a product of the club’s youth system has been struggling with an ankle problem since last month, though.

Meanwhile, the new arrival in Timo Werner has only scored 10 goals in 38 outings since his transfer from RB Leipzig last summer. While Olivier Giroud will become 35 years old in September, which proves Cole to be right that Chelsea needs more firepower at the final third.
