A few hours ago, FC Barcelona confirmed that Lionel Messi is leaving the club this summer. Here is the official statement from the club;
“Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).
“As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled. “FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandizement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”
Meanwhile, one of the reasons behind Leo Messi’s reluctance to sign a new Barca deal is the club’s failure to sign Cristian Romero.
As claimed by the source, Blaugrana had indeed made an offer worth €40m plus €10m in variables but the Argentine center-back decided to accept Spurs’ offer that was a bit better.
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old defender is heading to London to sign a deal with Tottenham Hotspur. The player has personally confirmed the move.
