Tuchel Explains Reasons Why Timo Werner Did Not Play In The FA Cup Final Defeat To Liverpool

Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he did not introduce Timo Werner for the FA Cup final against Liverpool because of an injury the forward had picked up.

“Timo was injured and uncomfortable during the warm-up and said he could not play,” the boss said after the game.

He also commented on the puzzling decision to sub off Ruben Loftus-Cheek for Ross Barkley barely 10 minutes after the former appeared on the pitch himself.

“Ruben has not a good history with penalties, statistically, and Ross has,” Tuchel answered.

In fairness, Barkley did convert his penalty in the shootout. It was another substitute, Cesar Azpilicueta, along with Mason Mount who missed their kicks which resulted in Liverpool’s victory.
